Honda specifies a 4,000 mile oil change interval for the air cooled, non-filtered, 250. By comparison, Kawasaki calls for a 3,000 mile interval on their water cooled, oil filtered, VN750 Vulcan. IIRC, both redline at about the same rpms. There are parallels between a lawn mower engine and the 250.

My bike is a 2003 Honda 600 VLX calling for a SAE 10W40. I'm definatley considering going Full Synthetic. Well, there will be stale fuel in your fuel filter, pump, and lines. DOT4 is backwards compatible with DOT3 systems. Most bottles will actually say that in the fine print if not on the front label. IIRC the main difference is an increase boiling point for fluid certified as DOT4. That probably won't make a bit of difference for a clutch, but is an added bonus for brakes with a more direct heat path.

I managed to remove the oil filter after using some elbow grease. The filter was installed very tight so when i have removed it with my oil wrench its actually damaged the casing. .
